When most people think about getting fit or “starting again,” they often plan a complete fitness overhaul in every aspect of their life…

  • Strength training 5x a week,

  • long cardio sessions

  • A flawless nutrition plan

  • maximum sleep

  • 15,000 steps daily

Anyone in the world can get in great shape with that.

The problem? (and it’s a huge problem)

Those plans will never survive your actual life.

YOUR actual reality.

I’d give most people 3 days before they fall off track there.

Not because the habits are bad - they’re great.

But that perfect plan on paper?

Is a nightmare in real life.

It expects you to be robotic in your actions and disregards work, family, hobbies, stress, injuries, social life, and energy levels and a host of other things.

It assumes unlimited time and zero obstacles.

So, at ALL costs… Avoid the perfect plan on paper.

Remember this, real progress happens when your plan fits your lifestyle, not when you have to crank and bend your life to fit a plan.

To build your plan for sustainable health, that means acknowledging:

  • Work schedules

  • Family commitments

  • Recovery (huge)

  • Existing habits

  • Past injuries

  • Current hobbies and priorities

Considering these holistic aspects with your fitness plan means it’s designed for YOUR real life, not a fantasy version of it.

Instead of chasing short bursts of intensity that lead to burnout, it prioritises consistency you can actually maintain. Progress comes faster than ever as you don't chase perfection.

You'll have flexibility with actions instead of rigid rules that demotivate you when you can’t make them stick.

It builds autonomy, so you understand why you’re doing what you’re doing instead of blindly following instructions. It chooses enjoyment over punishment, the list of benefits goes on and on!

And most importantly, it teaches you how to get back on track quickly when life happens, because life will happen.

Nothing is ever perfect in life, and your fitness plan should consider that approach too. There’s no perfect time to start nor a perfect plan to complete.

The ONLY perfect plan for you is a sustainable one.

And if you take 1 thing only from this blog, make it these 4 steps:

A sustainable fitness plan is:

  1. One designed for you that fits your life,

  2. focusing on the most important things only,

  3. with super small steps,

  4. in the simplest way possible.

If you scan back up the blog, you’ll see several things to consider for step #1, things to weigh up to make a plan fit your life. Work, lifestyle, priorities, habits and barriers to consistency.

Or… if you want me to do all that for you with 1, 2, 3 & 4, I’ve got you covered.

If you do this right, you might not even notice you've started (until the results role in). Monumental changes create tiny results. Tiny changes create monumental results.

Begin where you are, focus on what matters most, and take the first small step today, because consistency beats perfection every time.
